Perinatal Mental Health Initiative

The PMH Initiative will work to improve education on perinatal mental health conditions for clinical staff, patients and families as well as improve screening, treatment and linkage to resources for mental health conditions during pregnancy, delivery and postpartum.

Aim 1

>70% of IL birthing hospitals actively participating in PMH initiative

Aim 2

>70% of teams achieving key strategies of the PMH initiative

Aim 3

> 70% of pregnant women with current PMH conditions receive treatment (medication or therapy) and connection to resources prenatally or by delivery discharge

Key Drivers and Strategies of the PMH Initiative

Provider Education & Engagement: Educate all providers on screening and treating patients with PMH conditions using a patient centered, trauma-informed approach

Patient and Community Education & Engagement: Educate patients on PMH conditions, warning signs, and hotline resources; and collaborate with patients and communities and identify community-based resources

Screening & Assessment: Enhance screening of PMH conditions in the perinatal period

Optimizing Treatment: Establish processes for assessing and treating PMH conditions in obstetric and other care locations

Linkage to Resources: Enhance linkage to mental health services for improved care coordination and reduce barriers to access

Optimize SUD Work: Continue optimizing care of people with SUD through assessment and linkage to resources (DOPP, MAR Now)
