About

ILPQC’s Patient and Family Engagement efforts are designed to build strong support among hospital teams for meaningful family involvement in quality improvement initiatives. This focus provides tools and guidance for the effective recruitment, training, and integration of patients as valued members of hospital QI teams.

In collaboration with organizations such as the Preeclampsia Foundation, March of Dimes, and Hand to Hold, ILPQC has connected hospital teams with passionate and experienced volunteers to serve as Patient Advisors. Research shows that patient engagement leads to higher-quality care and improved patient experiences. Patient stories help hospital providers and staff better understand the patient journey and identify opportunities for improvement (e.g. education materials,  follow-up care processes).

ILPQC’s goal is for every hospital QI team to include a Patient Advisor in some capacity. By centering the voices of those with lived experience, we can more effectively improve outcomes for moms and babies across Illinois.

Objectives

1. Promote awareness and education to hospital teams and administrators to support meaningful patient and family engagement in quality improvement efforts
2. Equip hospital teams with tools and resources to effectively engage patients and families as partners in quality improvement work.
3. Support hospital teams in connecting with Patient Advisors to enhance QI collaboration.
